Wow, biased much? And that doesnt describe.. hm… Jewish American Princesses? Rich people? Jersey Boys? or any group of people who are “overly-pampered, self-cenetered, arrogant brats.” You feel that way about rich kids under the age of 14 as well? Are you also saying that movies are never about overly-pampered, etc etc people?

So Asian American males are upper middle class brats, spoiled, pampered, self-centered.. but have “social and economic plights.” I’m sorry, can you string together a coherent argument in the span of one paragraph? I am having a hard time convincing myself that you can.

To respond to the original post, yes there are cultural icons like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan (though he’s rather goofy) and ones that the Asian American community can do without (William Hung comes to mind). And coming from New York City where there are a ton of Asian faces, I forget sometimes that Asians are very much a minority in the US. Asians still turn heads in a crowd of non-Asians, and I do think that Asians stand out more than blacks or Hispanics. I think American will see a black president and a female president a long, long time before a serious Asian candidate comes to the foreground.

As an asian guy, I think it’s is clear that the media is trying to deny play down our influence in historical events.

It seems there was not one but several “MIT blackjack teams,” starting in the early ’80s and breaking up and re-forming all the way up to the present. This docu focused on the first formally organized one – it actually filed documents with the SEC as a limited partnership to raise funds in a private placement! It began in early 1992 and disbanded at the end of ‘93 amid intense heat from the casinos, a run of bad luck (remember that actual return usually deviates from “expected return” in the short run), and dissention in the ranks. They were all white, except for one Asian named John who I think was part of the “management” rather than one of the players actually working the casino floor. The mastermind was unidentified, a professor referred to as “Mr. M,” but was obviously white. A key player was a Russian immigrant named Semyon Duchak. After leaving the first team I think he organized a subsequent effort along similar lines; the team that Ben Mezrich (who was also interviewed on camera) wrote about was an offshoot from that one.

You’ll be happy to know that the all-AzN Jabbawokees (sp?) won America’s Next Dance Crew last night, and will be “paving the future wave of Hip Hop” according to the judges. Yellow is the new black (unless you want to get into college, then it’s still the old white).
